#1 Connect using Chromecast
Whether you invest in a stand-alone Chromecast or your TV has one built-in, you can easily cast content from your Android device to the tele.
Getting a new Chromecast set up takes a few minutes and is super simple. Plus, you’ll find one built-in to TVs by popular brands, including Philips, Sharp, Sony, and Toshiba.
To cast from your Android mobile device:
- Open the Netflix app on your mobile device
- Sign in to Netflix
- In the upper right corner of the screen, select Cast.
- Select the device you want to watch your TV show or movie on.
- Select a TV show or movie and press Play.
You can fast forward, rewind, pause, or change the audio or subtitle settings from your mobile device.
#2 Connect using an external cable
Your first option is to connect your Android device directly to your TV using a cable. The AV cables you’ll need will vary based on the mobile device output and TV input requirements.
Connecting your Android phone or tablet to your TV requires a cable to mirror the display of your mobile device content onto your TV. Most newer Android phones and tablets use a Type C (USB-C) or Type D (Micro HDMI). Most newer TVs will use HDMI connections. Older TVs use VGA.
When using compatible connections to watch Netflix, you may notice a difference in how streamed and downloaded titles display. A downside to using a cable to connect your device and TV is that Autoplay is not supported with cable connections.
#3 Connect using Netflix 2nd Screen
The Netflix app on your mobile device can sync to select TVs and streaming media players, allowing you to control your Netflix experience from your phone or tablet.
To use your Android mobile device as a remote:
- Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network as your TV
- Launch the Netflix app on both your TV and your mobile device
- Sign in to the same Netflix account on both your TV and your mobile device
- Select the Cast icon in the upper or lower right corner of the screen
- Select the device you would like to watch your TV show or movie on
- Select a TV show or movie to watch and press Play.
If you encounter issues with 2nd Screen, read Netflix’s guide on how to Troubleshoot issues with 2nd Screen.
You can now fast forward, rewind, pause, or change the audio or subtitle settings from your mobile device.
#4 Miracast
While not as popular as using a Chromecast, Miracast is another option that is available on all Android devices and all Windows machines running 8.1 or later. See why we prefer Chromecast vs Miracast.
Miracast shares the content with your TV using your Wi-Fi network, so you can’t use other apps while you’re watching Netflix. Plus, if your phone goes to sleep and turns off the screen, you’ll TV will go blank. You need to keep your phone awake, which can quickly drain the battery!
To use Miracast on Android, go to Settings > Display > Cast Screen and tap on your TV’s name.
Miracast is not available on Apple devices.
